Taking the plunge

Well almost.  It’s more like I’m getting my feet wet.  But still, it’s a step!

I joined a gym! (again – almost, I’m in the testing phase)

I’ve been thinking about this for a while, but with our office moving, I didn’t want to join the one in Dupont.  But then I found a Gold’s Gym in Rosslyn.  And, it’s like 3 blocks from my office!

My plan is to use it for lunch-time yoga/pilates classes, some strength training in the evenings, and the occasional spinning class.  I’ve been told I should try out body pump too, but it sounds a bit intimidating right now.

Are you a part of a gym?  What classes do you take?

  1. I went the uber-cheap route and joined a gym with no classes ($15 per month!), but I’ve heard Body Pump is awesome. Good luck with the gym decision! You definitely need to find the one that works for you.

  2. I’m part of a gym and adore it! A gym membership is either something you really get your money’s worth out of or it just sits there. I would recommend taking an orientation or having a session with a weight trainer (a lot of places offer a complimentary session) to get more comfortable with the place, because after all if you’re not comfortable there, you’re not going to go. I’ve enjoyed the cycle classes at my gym a lot, yoga for when I’m recovering from a race (too boring otherwise), and all the strength/bootcamp/body pump!

    • That’s a really good idea! I went in yesterday, and just ended up running and stretching bc the weights just all seem so intimidating!

  3. i’m a definite gym goer (but I also work there, so it’s easy for me;) ) I loveee body pump classes! they’re tough but good- and make me actually strength train in ways I normally wouldn’t

  4. I haven’t been taking many gym classes lately. I’ve taken body pump in the past and really liked. It was nice to do new exercises, cause I kind of get in a rut with my strength training exercises.

    • I don’t really do strength training at all, so I think a class like body pump will be a good place to start.

  5. I get free gym access with work, but there aren’t many after hours classes, but we do spin, body pump style classes, TRX, and kettlebell as a group. On my own I use it for the track, weight room, swimming, etc.

    • Oh I wish this gym had a pool. But I am excited to try out spinning for the first time! I’m such a gym newbie!

Hi! I go to the Gold’s Gym in Rosslyn too. Lunch time Body Pump is always good but the Wednesday teacher (Leslie) is my favorite. They have spin classes daily at noon and it never gets full so you’ll always get a bike. Good luck and hope to see you at the gym.

    • Awesome! I’ll definitely make sure to check out one of the spin classes. I’ve never done one before, so I think a less-full class would be less stressful.
